It is possible for everyone to help in the fight to enact policies and laws that afford those in the transgender spectrum equal and fair protections against discrimination in all aspects of life. The Transgender community is not seeking special rights that are above those provided to the population in general. Our community only seeks to have the same opportunities and protections as everyone else so that we may pursue our lives free from the violence and discrimination purveyed upon transgender people now, enabling us to contribute to our families, communities and society. We are no better nor less than anyone, equality and fairness applied equally for all is what we seek. We are people.
How can you help you ask? Vote. As well you should contact those that are elected to represent you so that they know we, you, exist. Changes may happen slowly or not at all on this matter if those that are elected to work for you do not know we are out there. Remember the squeaky gear gets the grease. You do not need to identify, out, yourself as being transgender if you do not feel safe in expressing it but let them know you support and wont action taken to enact protections for the transgender community. Many voices are needed to call out as one if we and our cause is to be noticed and acknowledged. Action begets action. Right here, right now we are the winds of change.
